CAREER CHRONOLOGY

I was born in Elizabeth, NJ on November 27, 1924, grew up in the Bronx, NY, and graduated as an Electrical Engineer from NYU (B.E.E. 1949, M.E.E. 1953: Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi). I served in the US Army from April 1943 to April 1946, seeing action in Europe with the 69th Infantry Division, 880th Field Artillery Battalion, B Company, Detail Section.

Most of my career was spent in military electronics, first as a systems engineer, and later in management roles. I later became an independent consultant and started a small management consulting firm, working on non-military and commercial programs

The chronology of my career was as follows:

1950 to 1954: Diamond Ordnance Fuze Laboratories, Washington, DC

I worked in the Terrier guided missile fuze program, where my primary role was in consolidating the proliferating information about the fuze designs and their field test results, to produce the succinct reports required for management's control of the rapidly growing programs.

1954 to 1960: Emerson Research Laboratories, Washington, DC,

I summarized and documented the current status of guided missile fuze theory, as part of my role in establishing an Operations Research Section. I then moved into management by organizing a Quality Assurance Department, responsible for coordinating the functions of Quality Control (manufacturing) and Reliability Assurance (design).

1960 to 1963: Radio Corporation of America (Missile Defense Systems), Moorestown, NJ

I worked as an Operations Research analyst, developing procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of the radar coverage provided by the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS) which was developed for detecting possible Soviet missile attacks.

1963 to 1966: Independent Consultant, Cinnaminson, NJ

I established myself as a Consultant, performing guided missile fuzing studies for Philco Corporation in Philadelphia, PA. I also consulted for RCA on BMEWS radar coverage capabilities, and on other military projects during their proposal phases (e.g., satellite detection systems).

1966 to 1971: M. Gale & Company, Washington, DC

I established a consulting company to provide technical and management services to the newly formed US Postal Service's Bureau of Research and Engineering. The services consisted of analyzing existing operating systems, with the objective of identifying opportunities for improving operations by introducing more efficient mechanization (and estimating the appropriate resources for making those improvements).

1971 to 1977: Westinghouse Learning Corporation, NYC, NY

I joined the Westinghouse Learning Corporation in New York City, as General Executive and Director of Special Projects, engaged in the development of computer aided educational systems for K-12 schools. My primary function was in serving as assistant to the president.

1977 to 1980: Author (Warner Books, NY)

I left the commercial world to become an author. I wrote three books, based on outlines submitted to Warner Books: "Biorhythm Compatibility," 1978, "Moon Power," 1980, and "Instant Astrology" 1980. Insufficient income strongly suggested that I return to commercial employment.

1980 to 1982: Formation, Inc. Moorestown, NJ

I joined Formation, Inc. to prepare a sales brochure for introducing a computer system that performed data collection and analysis for controlling manufacturing operations (MRP). I then prepared more extensive user-oriented documentation, based on interviews with the system programmers, engineers and factory staff.

1982 to 1991: RCA, Moorestown, NJ (Later GE, now Lockheed Martin)

Returning to RCA as a Systems Engineer, I participated in the Readiness Assessment effort for the AEGIS Weapon System (US Navy Destroyer Fleet). I assisted in the development of requirements, and initiated projects to use personal computers for shipboard assessment of equipment readiness.

April 1, 1991: RETIRED.

I began my retirement by reviewing 50 years of notes on projects that I wanted to do, speculations I wanted to write up, and the thoughts that I wanted to share with others. This Home Page now provides the opportunity to do those things!
